Set within the historic seafaring quarter of San Tomé, in Cambados, this singular home captures the essence of traditional Galician architecture through a contemporary and deeply respectful intervention. Rebuilt from a former ruin following the vision of a renowned architect specialising in vernacular design, the house preserves its original stone walls and the distinctive typology of historic dwellings with a lagar—a rare feature that lends the property its unique character.

An intimate retreat within stone walls, with courtyard, solana and glimpses of the sea, conceived for a slower way of living in one of Cambados’ most authentic settings.

The approach unfolds through a generous inner courtyard, enclosed by high masonry walls that create a sense of privacy and quiet introspection. At its centre, the original stone from the former lagar has been preserved and reinterpreted as a sculptural element, seamlessly integrated into the architectural composition. Wisteria climbing along the walls and a party wall adorned with scallop shells introduce texture, shade and a subtle artisanal warmth.

A covered porch runs along the façade, supporting a broad solana on the upper level, directly connected to the main living spaces. From the sitting room, a projecting bay window offers partial views of the sea, a constant reminder of the nearby Atlantic landscape, where the harbour of San Tomé and the small islands scattered across the estuary define the horizon.

The house is arranged over three levels. The ground floor comprises the kitchen, living room, guest WC and service areas. The main floor hosts the principal bedroom, dressing room, bathroom and a secondary living area opening onto the solana. The attic level accommodates two additional bedrooms and a bathroom, one of them enjoying open views towards the harbour and its surroundings.

With a total built area of approximately 230 sqm and a 30sqm courtyard, the property combines traditional materials—stone masonry, timber beams and carefully crafted carpentry—with the comfort of a contemporary home. It is offered unfurnished, presenting a blank canvas to be inhabited and interpreted.

Located in the very heart of San Tomé, one of Cambados’ most characterful neighbourhoods, the house lies just a short walk from the harbour, the seafront promenade and landmarks such as Praia da Mouta and the Torre de San Sadurniño. An environment shaped by the rhythm of the tides, maritime heritage and the culture of Albariño.

A home conceived for long stays, where the interior offers shelter and the exterior inspires. A place where architecture, landscape and daily life unfold in quiet harmony.
