A home with soul in Navarre

In the third episode of ‘My Singular Space’, former pelota world champion Arnaud throws open the doors of a heart-stealing country house, magnificently located in Elgorriaga, in the heart of the Malerreka Valley region. This unique spot is a nature-lover’s paradise, just 54 km from the city of Pamplona.  Packed with warmth and character, it’s a wonderful home that invites us to cherish every moment in this very special place, alone or in the company of friends — and Arnaud is a generous host.

Indeed, he tells us that he bought the property after a search for the perfect place to relax and spend time with friends. “Through work and sports I’ve got to know a lot of people. I wanted a house where I could put up friends and family and also hit a ball around from time to time,” he says.

When he discovered this home, he loved it so much that he set it up for year-round use. “I love the fact that I can leave my desk and in half an hour I’m here... It feels like I’m on holiday,” he adds. “It’s so cosy; you feel a warmth here... It’s a house that makes it easy to express all the love you have for your family.”

The property is presented in impeccable move-in condition, featuring six bedrooms, two bathrooms, a generous kitchen/dining room, a living room with a wood-burning stove and a substantial txoko in the grounds, perfect for entertaining family and friends. The 44,125 sqm plot offers ample space to plan your dream garden, grow your own produce or simply take in the pure country air.

“I love the fact that I can leave my desk and in half an hour I’m here... It feels like I’m on holiday,” Arnaud, current owner.

Magical memories

Arnaud shares some of his most treasured memories of the time he has spent here. He describes waking to a rippling sea of cloud hanging over the village further down the valley, and is eager to show us all the special quirks and features that make this home unique. “It’s very unusual to see full-length windows in a house like this. There are very few traditional Navarran homes with such large windows,” he notes.

But what really defines this space is the serenity that pervades the interior. “It’s a really peaceful place that allows you to unwind and just enjoy life... I love it here in the wintertime. On a cold day it feels so luxurious to gather around the fireplace with everyone I love.”

As we wind up our tour, he muses: “When you buy a house like this, it’s because it has grabbed you by the heart. That’s how it was for me.”
